Not many people know that teachers only receive 200 dollars per year to spend on their classroom. Special education teachers receive an additional 50 dollars to buy things like cleaning supplies, bleach, etc. Now, I know not many of you have priced educational goods lately, but 200 dollars just does not go very far in the world of instructional supplies. This is why we ask for our school fees and for children to bring school supplies with them.
My county's PTA is amazing. They organize something called the teacher supply depot a couple of times per year. This is where local businesses and sometimes individuals donate various supplies to my county, and the PTA organizes times that teachers can come in and go through the supplies, some new some used, and take them for free for use in their classroom.
I went for the first time today, and was not prepared for the wonderfullness of the whole place. There was paper, pens, markers, yes, but so much more, there were toys, there were teaching reading supplies, there were art supplies. It was wonderful.
So - if any of the PTA volunteers, chair people, etc, read this, I want to send out my personal THANK YOU for this! Thank you so much for organizing this! It is so wonderful to be able to get things for my classroom and not have to worry about cost! Also, thank you to all those who donated supplies!! :)
Awesome of the day: Free supplies for your classroom and those who provide and organize the events!
